Inconspicuous: Textured Stills
Artist Statement
In my series titled, Inconspicuous: Textured Stills, I photographed black and white macro images of natural objects. Magnifying my subjects and using a shallow depth of field, I focused on light and shadow to direct the viewer’s eye to detail, texture and form.
These dream-like, delicate and abstract pictures become more than just the subject as the viewer’s attention is drawn to other elements like composition and detail rather than the obvious subject. Furthermore, the macro quality creates a sense of mystery as they do not easily reveal what the subjects are or where they were taken. Ultimately, the goal of my series was to have the viewer observe their surroundings with a new perspective and that one can find beauty in even the most usual or overlooked of places.
